Firewalls and Proxy Servers
A server is a powerful computer on a
network that provides services and resources to other computers
on the network. Many computers are configured as both clients and
servers, meaning that they can both access resources located on
other computers across-the-network, and they can share their resources
with other computers on the network.
A Proxy Server is a server that acts
like a switchboard through a firewall to manage the various types
of permitted communications with the outside world. Specific paths
(ports) may be opened or closed to allow only specific kinds of
messages from the Internet to flow in and out of the internal network.
This protects the internal network from intruders or hackers who
might try to use the Internet to break into those systems. It
is imperative that Port 2820 be open bi-directionally for UDP and
TCP traffic for the Destinations software to work.
A Firewall is a combination of hardware and software that many
companies or organizations have in place between their internal
networks and the Internet. Like the proxy server, a firewall allows
only specific kinds of messages from the Internet to flow in and
out of the internal network. This protects the internal network
from intruders or hackers who might try to use the Internet to break
into those systems. All firewalls must have
Port 2820 opened bi-directionally for UDP and TCP for the Destinations
software to work.
